I’m also looking for all the Psalms of thanksgiving. As I went through the course, I was able to identify all of Gunkel’s themes. I want to know this because I would like to identify this theme as I’m reading the psalms. Thanks. I hit control find “thanksgiving” on my computer in each of the study guides and I’m 99% that they are not listed like the others unless they use different wordage?
Gunkel identified a number of types of psalms:
- psalms of lament, both individual and communal (psalms of “individual complaint” are: Psalm 3, 5–7, 13, 17, 22, 25-28, 32, 38, 39, 42, 43, 51, 54-57, 59, 61, 63, 64, 69–71, 86, 88, 102, 109, 120, 130, and 140-43. The psalms of “communal complaint” are: 44, 74, 79, 80, 83, and 89).
- psalms of thanksgiving
- royal psalms: 2, 18, 20, 21, 45, 72, 101, 110, 132, and 144:1-11.
- psalms of divine enthronement: 93, 97, and 99.
- wisdom psalms: 1, 14, 37, 73, 91, 112, 119, and 128. Other wisdom books include Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Job, Ecclesiasticus, and Wisdom of Solomon)
- hymns: (8, 19, 29, 33, 65, 67, 68, 96, 98, 100, 103–5, 111, 113, 114, 117, 135, and 145–50). A hymn is a praise song for the creator. Hymns tend to center around three main themes, which are often intertwined: creation, nature, and kingship.
