Instructions for Facilitators

Each of the weekly modules in this course contains a short video featuring scholars of the text, a study guide, and discussion questions. Certain modules also feature additional resources for further study.

Below is the schedule for which portions of the text are being studied in a given week, occasionally including optional reading when relevant. In addition to reviewing the recommended scripture, you should review the “Questions for Discussion” section each week in order to help facilitate group discussion.

Week 1 – What is Wisdom Literature?

1. Prepare for the session by familiarizing yourself with the following books: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job.
2. Optional: Read 1 Kings 4:29-34.
3. Optional: Read Psalms 1, 14, 37, 73, 91, 112, 119, and 128.

Week 2 – Proverbial Wisdom

1. Prepare for the session by reading the book of Proverbs.

Week 3 – Wisdom and Creation

1. Prepare for the session by reviewing Proverbs chapters 1-9.

Week 4 – Wisdom and Women

1. Prepare for the session by reviewing Proverbs chapters 1-9 and 31.

Week 5 – Ecclesiastes

1. Prepare for the session by reading the book of Ecclesiastes.

Week 6 – Job Prologue

1. Prepare for the session by reading Job chapters 1 and 2.

Week 7 – Job Dialogues

1. Prepare for the session by reading Job chapters 3-37.

Week 8 – Job and the Speeches from the Whirlwind

1. Prepare for the session by reading Job chapters 38-42.
