Instructions for Facilitators

Each of the weekly modules in this course contains a short video featuring scholars of the text, a study guide, and discussion questions. Certain modules also feature additional resources for further study.

Below is the schedule for which portions of the text are being studied in a given week, occasionally including optional reading when relevant. In addition to reviewing the recommended scripture, you should review the “Questions for Discussion” section each week in order to help facilitate group discussion.

Week 1 – The Birth of the Anointed One

1. Prepare for the session by reading Luke 1-2.
2. Optional: reading Matthew 1:18-2:12.

Week 2 – Jesus Begins to Heal

1. Prepare for the session by reading Luke 3:1-6:11.
2. Optional: review Luke 1:46-55.

Week 3 – Jesus Begins to Teach

1. Prepare for the session by reading Luke 6:12-8:55.
2. Optional: Read Matthew 5-7.

Week 4 – Jesus Begins to Form a Community

1. Prepare for the session by reading Luke 9:1-11:54.
2. Optional: Read Matthew 16:13-20.

Week 5 – Jesus Teaches “On the Road”

1. Prepare for the session by reading Luke 12:1-14:35.

Week 6 – Lost and Found

1. Prepare for the session by reading Luke 15:1-19:27.

Week 7 – In Jerusalem

1. Prepare for the session by reading Luke 19:28-22:71.
2. Optional: Read Matthew 21-26 , Mark 14, and John 12-13 to compare Gospel accounts of the entry into Jerusalem and the Last Supper.

Week 8 – The Passion and the Resurrection

1. Prepare for the session by reading Luke 23:1 – 24:53.
2. Optional: Read Mark 14-16, Matthew 26-28, and John 13-21 for other Gospel accounts of the passion and resurrection.
