Daniel – Discussion Questions

Interpreting the Text:

1. Why is the book of Daniel open to such diverging interpretations as we see in Luther and Calvin?
2. How should the Bible be read: as explaining the past, or as predicting the future? Both, neither? How did the reformers use Daniel?
3. What makes Daniel so susceptible to being interpreted as a prediction of the end of time? Why did some of the reformers avoid this practice?

Applying the Text:

1. Do you see Daniel more about eschatology, a prediction of the end times, or about moral teachings and how to have faith in God?
2. Do you see Daniel as a pastoral work, meant to show that God is with God’s people, as the reformers did?
