The Book of the Twelve, also known as the “12 Minor Prophets,” is a complex collection of prophetic material that spans 400 years of history, and features prophets writing from different geographical, political, and social contexts. It functions as a microcosm of the entire Hebrew Bible – its texts are composite works repurposed and added to in order to preserve important traditions and re-contextualize them for new communities. Throughout, the collection continually prompts us to ask questions about the nature of prophets, prophecy, and the ways in which God relates to God’s people.
