Deuteronomy Part 1 – Discussion Questions

Questions for Discussion:

For the remainder of this series, discussions focus on the book of Deuteronomy.

Step One: Before opening your Bible or watching the video reflect on the following:

• What comes to mind when you think of the book of Deuteronomy?
• What have you been taught about Deuteronomy in the past?

Step Two: Read through the first half of Deuteronomy. When you’re done, consider the following questions:

• What stood out to you in what you just read? Was there anything that surprised or bothered you?
•  Did you notice anything different about the laws found in Deuteronomy compared to those found in Exodus, Leviticus, or Numbers?

Step Three: Watch this week’s video and then discuss the following:

• What did you learn? Did this discussion change your reading of this text in any way(s)? If so, how?
• What is different about the laws found in Deuteronomy compared to those found in Leviticus and/or Exodus? Why do you think these differences exist?
• Do you think that laws can or should adapt and evolve over time? Why or why not?
• If you answered yes to the previous question, how do we choose what to change, remove, and/or keep from the “original” laws over time?
• As we near the end of this bible study series, what questions do you still have about “the law?”
