Questions for Discussion:
Did today’s discussion change your understanding of ancient Israel, the monarchy, and/or Jerusalem temple in any way? If so, how?
What makes a good king? Are there any particularly positive or negative qualities that you perceive in Solomon’s leadership style?
Do you think Jeroboam was justified in his choice to rebel against the monarchy? How does Jeroboam’s leadership style compare to Solomon’s?
Is there anything that you think Jeroboam could have done differently to prevent the monarchy from dividing in half?
What is your main takeaway from today’s discussion? What questions do you still have?
