The history of Israel, especially in the period of the monarchy, is told twice in the Bible. We find it once in the book of Kings, and again in the book of Chronicles. Separated by centuries, these two historical works cover much of the same ground, but do so very differently. In this study, we will look at each book in turn, reflecting on some of the best-known characters and events, from Solomon to Elijah to Josiah, and consider the ways that history writing is shaped by the circumstances in which it is written.
