SUMMARY:Leviticus\, Numbers\, and Deuteronomy: An Online Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:Zoom | September 15 – October 20 | 8 pm Eastern | 6 Sessions \nThe last three books of the Pentateuch – Leviticus\, Numbers\, and Deuteronomy – are among the most challenging in the Bible. From obscure rituals to the narratives of Israel in the wilderness\, from the law against homosexuality to the golden rule\, from Mount Sinai to the border of Canaan\, these books span a wide range of genres\, contents\, locations\, and theological positions. In these six sessions\, we will make our way through this maze of material\, and see how the most challenging material can also be the most rewarding. \nThe six sessions will occur on September 15\, 22\, 29\, October 6\, 13\, and 20. After attending all six sessions\, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. \nFor information on YDS Professor Dr. Joel S. Baden go here. \nVideos from this event are here: Leviticus\, Numbers\, and Deuteronomy

SUMMARY:Biblical Wisdom: An Online Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:The Hebrew Bible contains three books that are concerned with “wisdom” as their primary object. These are the books of Proverbs\, Job\, and Qoheleth (Ecclesiastes). These books are remarkable for the fact that they never mention Israel and are concerned with humanity at large. Two other wisdom books are included in the Catholic canon and the Protestant Apocrypha. These are the books of Ben Sira and the Wisdom of Solomon. These books do concern themselves with Israel\, but retain the typical wisdom focus on humanity as such. This series will examine the question “what is wisdom” and consider the distinctive contribution of these books to the biblical tradition. \nThe six sessions will occur on October 2\, 9\, 16\, 23\, 30 and November 6. After attending all six sessions\, participants will receive a Certificate of Participation. \nFor more information on the Dr. John Collins go here. \nVideos from this event are here: Biblical Wisdom: An Online Bible Study

SUMMARY:Casting the Pageant: Meeting the Characters of Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Zoom | Nov. 30 – Dec. 21 | 7:30 pm Eastern | 4 Sessions \nAdvent comes wonderfully but relentlessly every year\, and the task of preaching and programming and participating freshly in the annual observance\, with its sometimes-threadbare traditions\, can be a challenge. \nThis Advent\, join Rev. Dr. Allen Hilton as we have some faithful fun with the annual pageant. Every year\, kids don the costumes\, parents and grandparents and godparents capture video on their cell phones\, but what do we actually know about the characters in this drama? In this study\, we’ll spend the four Thursday evenings of Advent diving deeper into the stories behind the cast\, using descriptions from their ancient social world to build a historically-based character profile for each part. \nNov 30 — The Big Shots (Augustus Caesar\, Quirinius\, Herod\, and the Magi)\nDec 7 — The Heavenly Host (Unnamed in Matthew\, Gabriel in Luke\, Host of Heaven in Luke)\nDec 14 — The Lovely and Lowly (Shepherds\, Innkeeper\, and Animals)\nDec 21 — The Adorable Couple (Mary and Joseph) \nThe four sessions will occur on November 30\, December 7\, 14\, and 21.  \nFor more information on the Rev. Dr. Allen Hilton go here.

SUMMARY:The Sequel: Jesus Continued in the Book of Acts with the Rev. Dr. Allen Hilton
DESCRIPTION:Zoom | Jan. 11 – Feb. 29 | 7:30 pm Eastern | 8 Sessions \nJoin the Rev. Dr. Allen Hilton for eight sessions occurring on Luke’s intro to the Book of Acts. It summarizes his whole 24-chapter Gospel — Jesus’ birth\, childhood\, teaching\, preaching\, wonder-working\, passion\, death\, and resurrection — as “all that Jesus began to do and teach.” (Acts 1.1) To our author\, the brilliant life and ministry of Jesus was just the beginning — a start that the church would continue as Christ’s body in the world. The well-told stories of Acts recount the ways a small group of Jewish men and women in Jerusalem grew and expanded to move the Way of Jesus into cities around the Mediterranean Sea and\, ultimately\, beyond. This class will offer a close reading of this fascinating and faith-forward account. \nThe eight sessions will occur on January 11\, 18\, 25\, February 1\, 8\, 15\, 22\, and 29. After attending all eight sessions\, participants will receive a Certificate of Participation. \n*Please note when registering\, the system will ask you for a promo code\, please skip this as a promo code is not needed. \nFor more information on the Rev. Dr. Allen Hilton go here.

SUMMARY:Psalms: An Online Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:** This Bible Study series is sold out\, but we will have the entire study available as a self-study after it concludes. \nZoom | September 12 – October 17 | 7:30 pm Eastern | 6 Sessions \nThe Psalms – perhaps the most beloved book of the Bible what Calvin called “An Anatomy of all the Parts of the Soul.” Traditionally attributed to King David the Psalms in fact represent hundreds of years’ worth of ancient Israelite reflections on joy and loss on fear and faith. In these six sessions we will look at the Psalms from a few different angles: their cultural and historical origins the various literary genres they include the way that biblical poetry is constructed and communicates and more. Join us as we explore the Psalms from antiquity to today. \nThe six sessions will occur on September 12\, 19\, 26\, October 3\, 10\, and 17. After attending all six sessions\, participants will receive a Certificate of Participation. \nFor more information on Dr. Joel S. Baden go here. \nVideos from this event are here: Psalms: An Online Bible Study

SUMMARY:1 Corinthians in the First and 21st Centuries Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:Zoom | January 13 – March 3 | 7:30 pm | 8 Sessions \nWe’ve reached a moment in history when the world needs Jesus-followers to be ONE Body. As social ties fray and break around politics and other divisive forces\, as loneliness becomes epidemic\, we do well to hear and heed the apostle Paul’s prescriptions for the divided Corinthian church. Among Paul’s letters\, 1 Corinthians gives us the clearest picture of daily life in a first-century church. In it\, we may just see ourselves — and our way forward as Christ’s body. Join Rev. Dr. Allen Hilton as he opens this fascinating epistle with us. \nThe 8 sessions will occur on January 13\, 20\, 27\, February 3\, 10\, 17\, 24\, and March 3. After attending all 8 sessions\, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. \nRegister once for all 8 sessions. \nFor more information on the Rev. Dr. Allen Hilton go here.
